Why is it that while most HDTVs I've heard of DO have HDMI inputs but not FireWire/i.LINK inputs, _ - vhs through hdmi

Most D-VHS VCR (yes, you know the type - that of DVD quality video capture nearly full HD [usually digital] video and SD digital video) and I have NO have HDMI outputs (or listen inputs), but FireWire / i.Link) (and inputs? What is the point, a consumer or prosumer HD video without a way to connect to the digital (TV if possible) through access to high-definition analog pass - Component RCA connectors?
